Physical Education at Ormiston Park Academy
This course is designed to give you the opportunity to experience and develop an interest in a variety of roles in sport, such as performer, official or coach. You will develop your knowledge of a range of sports and theoretical concepts that will provide you with a sound foundation to go on and progress into higher education or start a career linked to sport.
You will have the opportunity to further develop your skills in a variety of roles in sport, such as performer, official or coach in practical activities. A wide range of sports will be studied, giving you the chance to identify your best areas to further your development. Contemporary topics in sport are studied in the theoretical elements of the course, such as the impact in the use of ergogenic aids, technology and the increasing commercialisation of sport. You will explore factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport, factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport, and perform a practical assessment in the role of performer or coach.
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above. Grade B or above in GCSE PE.
You will be taught in a theoretical and practical setting and assessed via practical performances, verbal analysis and written exam papers.
Your successes in this subject can lead to degree courses in all areas of physical education, from specific pathways such as physiotherapy and biomechanics, to sports science and teaching degrees.
Opportunities lie to support the PE & Sport department in the Academy working with students in Years 7-11. OPA works with our feeder primary schools to offer physical activity lessons, which you could assist in planning and leading. OPA6 will assist you in arranging for a work placement position within local businesses.
