Introduction To Early Years Education and Care (QCF) CACHE Level 2 Certificate at Buxton & Leek College

Course description

This qualification is suitable for a range of learners who have little or no experience in childcare.  It aims to prepare learners to work with children between birth and five years with knowledge of children up to seven years. You will undertake 250 hours of placement throughout the year.

Course content

This course provides an introduction to early years education and care with mandatory and optional units, covering a wide range of relevant topics. The course prepares learners for employment as an assistant in a range of related job roles or for progression to a Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification. Also, Buxton and Leek College has excellent success rates for our Childcare & Education qualifications.

Entry requirements

  • 4 GCSEs at D Grade including English Language
  • A satisfactory reference from school
  • A satisfactory DBS check.


All units will be assessed using a range of methods, including direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence and written assignments.

Future opportunities

This qualification allows progression onto the CACHE Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification (subject to achievement of GCSE English Language C grade or above), or into employment as nursery assistant, classroom assistant, pre-school assistant or nanny.
