Certificate In Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) Level 3 at St Simon Stock Catholic School

Course description

Core maths is the size of an AS qualification with grades A-E available.  It helps to develop students’ mathematical skills and thinking and supports courses such as A-level Psychology, Sciences and Geography as well as technical and vocational qualifications. At the end of the course students will sit two papers (comprehension, application) - 1 hour 30 mins in length.  Use of graphic or scientific calculator is allowed in both papers.  Students will be given preliminary material prior to the exam.

Course content

Mathematical skills are highly prized within academics and employment.  Core maths give an opportunity to develop these skills beyond the scope of GCSE maths.  Core Mathematics enable students to engage with, explore, enjoy and succeed in maths.

Entry requirements

Grade 5 or higher in GCSE Mathematics

Future opportunities

Core Maths supports the study both at A level and beyond of Science, Social Science, Economics, Computing.
