Further Mathematics A Level at Acton High School

Course description

Within the Further Mathematics course students will have the opportunity to study Decision Maths, Mechanics and Statistics as well as Further Pure 1, 2, 3. These courses are geared to preparing students to tackle both practical and theoretical problems, through a combination of investigative based tasks, ICT, website based activities (Maths net) and text book exercises. Students will see how Maths, in its many forms, can be related to and used in the real world.

AS Level

Further Pure 1, 33.3% of AS (16.67% of A Level)
Decision Maths 1, 33.3% of AS (16.67% of A Level)
Statistics 2, 33.3% of AS (16.67% of A Level)

All assessed by written examination (1 hr 30 minutes each)

A2 Level

Further Pure 2, 16.67% of A Level
Further Pure 3, 16.67% of A Level
Mechanics 2, 16.67% of A Level

All assessed by written examination (1 hr 30 minutes each)

Entry requirements

For Further Maths students should have achieved a grade A*in GCSE Mathematics

Future opportunities

This course will give students an excellent foundation for a Mathematics or related degree Mathematical skills are transferable to work in industries such as Medicine, Dentistry, Finance, Economics, Accountancy, Law, Actuary, Architecture, Biochemistry and Science.
