Business Retail BTEC First Award at Stanley Park High School

Course description

The BTEC First Award encourages personal development of knowledge and skills relevant to the business retail world through practical participation in a range of vocational business activities. The Award is designed to give students the opportunity to enter employment in business, specifically the retail sector, or to progress to other vocational qualifications, such as the Edexcel BTEC Level 3Nationals in Business. It gives students the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life. The BTEC Level 2 First Award is a nationally recognised vocationally-specific qualification.

Course content

The Award in Business Retail consists of 2 mandatory units plus two optional units that provide a combined total of 120 credits.

‘Finance for Business’ is assessed by an external exam. All other assessment is carried out by your teacher who assesses your portfolio of work for each unit. The Business Retail course is 75% coursework and you are graded as a Pass, Merit or Distinction.

To gain the Level 2 Award you will need to complete 120 credits and it is the equivalent to 1 GCSE.

4 GCSEs A*-D grade

Future opportunities

Students will gain a nationally recognised level 2 vocationally specific qualification to lead to higher education programmes in the same or related sector, or the skills and techniques to an area of employment within this sector.
