Business Administration Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2 (BUS1) at Barnsley College

Course description

Business Administration skills are essential in many job roles. This apprenticeship will provide you with the skills you need to work effectively in a business environment.

Course content

You will study all of the mandatory units and choose units from the list below which relate to your job role. You will also study:

•Employment, Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) Booklet

•Level 1 Functional Skills in English, maths and IT

•Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) Mandatory Units

•Communication in a business environment

•Principles of providing administrative services

•Principles of business document production and information management

•Understand employer organisations

•Manage personal performance and development

•Develop working relationships with colleagues Optional Units

•Manage a diary system

•Produce business documents

•Collate and report data

•Store and retrieve information

•Produce minutes of meetings

•Handle Mail

•Provide a reception service

•Prepare text from notes using touch typing

•Archive information •Maintain and issue stationery and supplies

•Organise business travel or accommodation

•Administer the recruitment and selection process

•Buddy a colleague to develop their skills

•Use and maintain office equipment

•Contribute to the organisation of an event

•Health and safety in a business environment

•Use a telephone and voicemail system

•Meet and welcome visitors in a business environment

•Using email

•Data management software

•Bespoke software

•Use word processing software

•Deliver customer service relationships

•Participate in a project

•A variety of knowledge based ‘Principles’ units to choose.

Entry requirements

Learners will need to be at least 16 years of age and must hold three GCSEs at grade A*-D, plus GCSE English Language and maths Grade D/3.

You need to be employed within a business setting or have an employer in this area willing to take you on as an apprentice.


You will be assessed by your assessor using a portfolio of evidence or e portfolio, practical demonstrations and assignments. You will be assessed both in College and in your place of work.
