Course description

Do you have a keen interest in Motorsport. Would you like to know how a race car engine develops more power than a standard engine. How different setups with suspension and gear ratios can affect the handling of vehicles for various track conditions and layouts? If so, then this could be the course for you. Course content • Health and safety skills within the Motorsport environment • Event regulations/race day preparation and procedures • Materials, fabrication, tools, welding techniques and measuring • Engine mechanical, lubrication and cooling system units and components • Fuel, ignition, air and exhaust system units and components • Inspection of a vehicle during competition • Removal and replacement of chassis, electrical. transmissions, driveline units and components • Introduction to low carbon technologies in the automotive industry project Each one of these units also has a skills component which is assessed through a variety of practical tasks in the workshop.

Entry requirements

You will need to have GCSE grades A*-C in the following subjects • Maths • English • Science Also during the enrolment process you will be required to complete an online assessment to assess your level of English and Maths.

Future opportunities

• Employment - within the motorsport industry as a motorsport vehicle service technician • Further education - progress onto some higher level qualifications in motorsport, automotive and engineering related subjects, such as the IMIAL Level 3 Diploma in Motorsport Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
