Information Technology BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at The Leventhorpe School
BTEC Nationals are QCF Level 3 qualifications designed to provide highly specialist work-related qualifications in a range of vocational sectors. They give you the knowledge, understanding and skills that you need to prepare for employment. The 360 guided learning hours (GLH) (usually six units) BTEC National Award offers a specialist qualification that focuses on particular aspects of employment within the appropriate vocational sector. The BTEC National Award is a qualification which can extend a learner’s programme of study. It is broadly equivalent to one GCE A level. The course is designed to give you practical experience in using common software and hardware in providing solutions to simulated real world situations. Evidence will be provided by a combination of written and observed assessment.
The qualification consists of two mandatory units:
- Communication and Employability Skills for IT
- Computer Systems
Plus four optional units from a range of units including:
- Information systems
- Database Design
- Website Production
- Digital Graphics
- Computer Animation
- Supporting Business Activity
- Business Resources
- Spreadsheet Modelling
- Multimedia Design
Five or more GCSE's at grade C or 5.
All units are internally assessed, based on the achievement of specified learning outcomes and are graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction. Within these assessments are four BTEC grading domains:
- Application of knowledge and understanding
- Development of practical and technical skills
- Personal development for occupational roles
- Application of generic skills
You will have a level of ICT skill that is highly valued by employers. The course provides you with practical knowledge of how ICT systems service the information needs of an organisation and will assist you in your future higher education studies and employment.
