Course description

Chemists have greatly improved the quality of life for the majority of people. Our A-Level course is underpinned by the practical skills that we call ‘How Science Works’. You also find out how chemists are real innovators, designing solutions to the problems that affect modern life. Students with a wide range of interests enjoy the chemistry course. Whether you want a job in medicine or industry, chemistry is the solid platform upon which careers are built.

Year 1 - AS Level - Unit 1: Foundation Chemistry exam, 33% - Unit 2: Chemistry in Action exam, 47% - Unit 3: Investigative & Practical Skills assessment, 20%

Year 2 - A2 Level - Unit 4: Kinetics, Equilibria and Organic Chemistry exam, 33% - Unit 5: Energetics, Redox and Inorganic Chemistry exam, 47% - Unit 6: Investigative & Practical Skills assessment, 20%

Future opportunities

Chemistry is a great choice of subject for people who want a career in health and clinical professions, such as medicine, nursing, biochemistry, dentistry or forensic science. It will also equip you for a career in industry, for example in the petrochemical or pharmaceutical industries.
