Mathematics A level at The Ecclesbourne School

Course description

Studying Maths in the Sixth Form will allow students to develop their further understanding of the subject in a way that encourages confidence and enjoyment. Students will develop their ability to think clearly and produce logical and coherent solutions to complex problems.

The AS course is split into three units. You will study Core Maths 1 which includes work on indices and surds, polynomials, coordinate geometry and graphs
and introduces differentiation. Core 2 Maths deals largely with trigonometry, sequences and series and integration. The final unit will be Probability and
Statistics 1, which involves discreet random variables, probability and bivariate data.

The course at A2 follows the same structure with units in Core Maths 3 and 4 where you will study functions, trigonometry, calculus and vectors. The final unit will be Mechanics 1, studying kinetics, Newton’s laws and momentum.
