ICT AS A2 at Kettering Science Academy

Course description

This is a two year course with no AS option. When you complete the course at the end of two years you will be awarded the OCR Nationals Level 3 Certificate in ICT at Pass, Merit or Distinction level. This is the same as one A-level.

Course content

Compulsory units:

Unit 1: Digital business communication

Unit 2: Collaborative working

Unit 3: Problem solving

Unit 4: Creating a digital showcase

Plus two units chosen from:

Desktop Publishing

Digital Video

Digital Audio

Music Technology

Cartooning and animation

Web authoring

Advanced spreadsheets

Advanced databases

Each of these units gives you the opportunity to explore and develop your skills with ICT. The actual content of the changes to keep up with rapidly changing digital technology.

Assessment

The course is assessed through coursework portfolio.

Future opportunities

Completion of the course will put you in a good position for all careers using IT. This is a key area of national and international development and with an advanced qualification you will be well placed to achieve both high rewards and significant career opportunities. You will find the skills you develop on this course are very useful if you go on to study at

university or college. Most employers want you to have good ICT skills and this course will help to give you them.

UCAS Points (needed for university entry)

Pass gains the same number of UCAS points as Grade E at A-level.

Merit gains the same number of UCAS points as Grade C at A-level.

Distinction gains the same number of UCAS points as Grade A at A-level.
