Course description

Course Overview

The Cambridge Technical Certificate in IT is equivalent to one A Level. Designed in collaberation with experts from the sector, this qualification aims to prepare students for the challenges they'll face in Higher Education or employment. Learners will gain an insight into the IT sector as they investigate the pace of technological change, the IT infrastructure, the flow of information on a global scale and the importance of legal and security considerations.

Course content

How is it assessed?

Three externally examined units:

  1. Fundamentals of IT
  2. Global Information
  3. Cyber Security

A choice of two further units which are centre-assessed.

Entry requirements

Students are required to have the standard Sixth Form entry requirements [5 A* - C grades indlucing English and Maths]. You do not need to have studied ICT at GCSE.

Future opportunities

Achievement of this qualification can support progression to Higher Education and relates to degrees such as, Computing and IT, Computing Science, Software developments, Software Engineering, ICT and Computer Networks or Business Information Systems.

    • The Sixth Form at Southmoor is housed in a dedicated wing of Southmoor Academyl, completely refurbished and redesigned for our first intake in September 2014. Sixth formers enjoy their own café, open from 8.00am every morning and manned by our very own team of student Baristas, as well as study areas, a resource room, a computer suite, and classrooms furnished throughout with private study booths. All students have a locker to store their files in, and the newly refurbished toilets are for the exclusive use of Sixth Form students.
