Hairdressing NVQ2 at Harrow College

Course description

The course is designed to develop practical skills and associated science and theory for: client consultations, shampoo and conditioning, basic cutting, styling, and colouring as well as Health and Safety and customer care.

The course is designed to develop practical skills and associated science and theory for: client consultations, shampoo and conditioning, basic cutting, styling, and colouring as well as Health and Safety and customer care.

This course is divided into units and delivered in theory and practical sessions. All practical assessments are carried out in our newly refurbished commercial salons.

Entry requirements

4 GCSE grade A - D or NVQ level 1 in Hairdressing. Candidates would also need to complete a Profiler Assessment test in English and Maths and a written and practical assessment. Candidates will have good communication skills and be able to work with others. They will also need to have a calm and professional approach as they will be working with clients and will be assessed on their skills and knowledge in hairdressing. Working in a hair salon would be desirable.

Assessment

You will be assessed throughout the course on both practical and theory; you will be assessed on assignments, tests, work pack, oral questions and written papers. You will build a portfolio of evidence that is internally and externally verified. At times you may be required to provide and generate clients for practical assessments.

Future opportunities

You could progress onto the NVQ Level 3 in Hairdressing; employment in the Hair Industry or possibly another vocational qualification at level 3 including a level 3 Apprenticeship.(We would recommend that you check entry requirements for other level 3 qualifications as entry requirements may vary).

Equipment or materials:

Hair kit, uniform and text book. The kit is paid for during enrolment at the start of the course. Uniform and text book order forms will be given to you at enrolment. You will also need a USB, writing materials, paper, and folders for a portfolio and your own theory work.

Additional costs:

Costs of visits and exhibitions. approximately £20.
