Languages AS level at The Dukeries Academy

Course description

The languages AS/A Level course aims to increase and expand the skills already begun at GCSE, improving your understanding of the language and your ability to use it both in its spoken and written form.

The name of the game is still communication, but increasingly it will become accurate communication with the grammar playing a more significant role than that at GCSE, both in the written and spoken language. You will become more familiar with your target languageā€™s society and culture through the content of the course as well as topics of particular interest to the language you are studying.

Entry requirements

GCSE French/German grade B. 5 A*-C grades at GCSE (including English and Maths).

Assessment

  • Unit 1 Listening, Reading, Writing (1 hour 45 written exam) 45%
  • Unit 2 Writing ( 1 hour 30 written exam) 25%
  • Unit 3 Speaking Test (12-14 mins) 30%

Future opportunities

Most of our A level MFL students use their qualification to get into university. We have had lots of students who go on to study the language further and some have found interesting combinations of a language with, for example, finance, business or engineering.
