English Literature - A Level at Cordeaux Academy

Course description

Literature will encourage you to develop your interest and enjoyment of the written word. You will analyse a variety of texts through discussion, close reading and group work. Discussion and debate is a vital part of this course and you must be willing to participate in these activities.

In this course you will study texts from a range of different times to analyse the use of language to influence the reader and how the social and historical contexts of the time affect the writer. You will learn how to plan, structure and write essays to demonstrate a balance of knowledge and opinion.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at Grades A*-C to include English and English Literature. A higher grade in English is desirable.

Future opportunities

This qualification is an excellent and challenging entry qualification to a wide variety of Higher Education programmes including less obvious areas such as law and history.
