Drama and Theatre Studies at Formby High School

Course description

Drama and Theatre Studies is a popular and successful subject, with our students consistently achieving high grades at A Level, and the quality of our practical work is second to none.

Drama and Theatre Studies will enhance communication, organisation and research skills. It will develop confidence and provide many opportunities for practical and independent exploration - skills that are valued and demanded by employers and institutions alike.

Students enjoy the highly creative and friendly teaching and learning environment. In our excellent studio theatre space they can explore ideas, develop their acting, technical and design skills, experiment with style and genre and utilise the professional technical resources.

Our course is designed to fully prepare our students for examination and for future study at university and specialist drama school. Prospective drama school and National Youth Theatre candidates are prepared for auditions during the course which has produced very successful results with past students.

Course content

There is an emphasis on Drama and Theatre Studies as a practical, intellectual and artistic subject. There will be devised and scripted practical performances that are assessed by a visiting examiner and internally assessed. The course also encourages the practical and theoretical exploration of play texts from different periods and genres, including the study of two theatre practitioners and the analysis of production elements.

Entry requirements

B grade in GCSE Drama (if studied) or grade 5 in GCSE English Language or English Literature.

Future opportunities
