Biology A level at Wadham School
Students will enjoy Biology if they are curious about the living world and like practical science. They also need to like solving problems and have the ability to work independently to aid the learning of complex concepts. Much of the practical work will require students to work well in teams.
Recent advances through research in biological sciences, have revolutionised the way we understand the world around us. Biology is the scientific exploration of the vast and diverse world of living organisms; this exploration has expanded enormously within the last four decades revealing a wealth of knowledge about ourselves and about the millions of other organisms with which we share our planet. Today, biological research, worldwide, spans an almost infinite spectrum of studies from molecules to landscapes.
Students must have at least 5 A*-C (or equivalent). Grades BB in Double Higher Tier or BBB in Triple Science provide evidence of the scientific ability required to cope with the study of A Level Science.
Exam Board AQA
Students will be assessed both during and at the end of the course via internal and external module tests. Internal assessment of practical work takes place in both the AS and A Level courses and contributes to an assessment in ‘Practical Competence’.
Biology is a great choice of subject for people who want a career in health and clinical professions, such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, physiotherapy, pharmacy, optometry, nursing, zoology, marine biology or forensic science.
