A Level Economics at The Windsor Boys' School

Course description

It is a “thinkers” subject. If you enjoy thinking, working with statistics, lively debate and analysis then this is the subject for you.Economics is the study of real world events, the statistics and people behind those world changing events.

Albert Einstein when asked “What is the most powerful force in the universe?” He replied not with a concept of physics or science but with an economic concept. Do you want to know why?Economics pervades every aspect our every day lives and decision making. This is your opportunity to learn and understand this fascinating, challenging and unique subject.

You will study, for example, about money and the operation of monetary policy such as quantitative easing. You will learn about globalisation, the financial markets and how the financial crisis and the sovereign debt crisis has evolved. You will understand the forces that drive global markets and the difficult decisions that governments must make which affect our taxes, incomes and jobs.

At A.S. Level

You will study:

ECON 101 - Markets in action – 50% of A.S. grade

ECON 102 - The National and International Economy - 50% of A.S. grade

At A2 Level

ECON 103 - The global economy – 50%

ECON 104 - Markets and the distribution of income – 50%

Entry requirements

Given that Economics is universally acknowledged as a very challenging subject at A Level requiring both abstract and linear thinking a basic entry requirement is a B grade in GCSE English and Maths, with an average GCSE grade profile of B grades or above.
