Health & Social Care GCSE Block D at Homewood School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

The course consists of two units of study. Unit 1 - Understanding Personal Development and Relationships (externally assessed) and Unit 2 - Exploring Health, Social Care and Early Years Provision. The two units are equally weighted. Unit 2 is internally assessed in the form of a portfolio assignment. Unit 1 is examined in an external exam lasting one and a half hours. The course aims to encourage vocationally related learning and provides an overview of the health, social care and early years sectors. Your knowledge, skills and understanding of these sectors will be enhanced throughout the course. The style of vocational courses introduces students to work-related learning and empowers them to take charge of developing new skills and abilities. You will learn through a range of teaching, learning and assessment styles that aim to meet the individual needs of students studying vocational style courses, by working independently at times using a variety of research methods and by investigating a range of settings within health, social care and early years sectors. Your progress will be individually monitored and a mentoring process will set targets that are clearly defined.
