Fashion Design BTEC Level 3 90 Credit/Extended Diploma at Great Yarmouth College

Course description

This course is designed for students who wish to specialise in fashion and textiles. You will learn the essential skills of fashion design and be encouraged to develop your own style and individuality. All students can show their collections on the catwalk at the annual fashion show.

Course content

In the first year you will explore a broad range of fashion topics including drawing, computer aided design, surface pattern, textiles, pattern cutting and printmaking. In the second year you will select a specialist pathway which is linked to your intended career or the university course of your choice.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grades A*- C ideally including maths and English, plus a portfolio of varied art, fashion and/or textile work.

Or you will have completed the BTEC/OCR Level 2 in Art & Design at merit grade, also Level 1 Functional Skills in English and maths, plus a portfolio of varied art, fashion design and/or textile work.


Work is project based and presented in sketchbooks and a portfolio which is showcased in an end-of-year static exhibition and fashion catwalk show. Students are assessed and supported throughout the two year course with regular reviews, formative and final assessment on each of the 18 units gaining a PASS, MERIT or DISTINCTION.

Future opportunities

Study a foundation degree here at UCS Great Yarmouth or go into employment or self-employment.
