Course description

Year 1:
 Unit 1: Foundation Portfolio in Media
Production of two paired media products from a series of briefs, covering print, audio, moving image or e-media.
 Unit 2: Key Media Concepts
The analysis of the key media concepts of textual analysis, representation, audiences and institutions in either
TV or Radio Drama together with the study of a specific industry study from a choice of film, music,
newspapers, radio, magazines or video games.
Year 2:
 Unit 3: Advanced Portfolio in Media
A development of skills learnt in Unit 1; a production of a portfolio through a combination of two or more media
and the presentation of research, planning and evaluation in two or more media forms.
 Unit 4: Critical Perspectives in Media
This unit covers theoretical evaluation of production in Unit 3, alongside a study of contemporary media issues.
There is also a choice of topic (for example, global media and democracy) which is studied through analysis of
a range of texts.

Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at grade C or above.You will need at least a grade C in GCSE English Language and Literature although an A*, A or B grade in either or both English subjects is preferred
