Health and Social Care Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2 at Derwentside College

Course description

The Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care for Adults has a minimum credit value of 46 credits.  The qualification is composed of mandatory and optional units.


Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care has a credit value of 20 credits.  These units can be knowledge-based, skills/competency-based or a combination of both


The course also requires you to complete the Level 2 Award in Employment, Rights and Responsibilities & Functional Skills English, Maths & ICT

Entry requirements

To join the Apprenticeship programme requires Maths and English at Entry Level 3 or above.  

All learners on Apprenticeship require appropriate full-time employment and due to the nature of the apprenticeship, a police check (DBS) is also required.


All units are internally assessed.  Assessment enables your workplace practice to provide evidence for individual units as well as the whole qualification.  Methods of assessment could include:

  • Direct observation of practice

  • Witness evidence

  • Reflection on own practice in real work situations

  • Written assignments

  • Learner’s own plans and written records

The qualification will be pass or refer and all the assessment criteria of the chosen units must be achieved in order to obtain a pass

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course Apprentices can progress to:

  • Advanced Apprenticeship programme

  • Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care
