Painting and Decorating (Construction) - CSkills Level 3 Diploma at East Durham College

Course description

The is designed for those who are experienced in Painting and Decorating or have completed the level 2 Diploma. On completion of the course you will be able to: Prepare surfaces to receive paint materials, apply paint materials by brush and roller, apply specialist wallpapers to walls and ceilings, apply advanced decorative finishes, apply specialist architectural features (cornice & ceiling roses) and apply paint materials with airless spray equipment.

Entry requirements

You will need to have completed Level 2 Diploma in Painting and Decorating or NVQ 2 in Painting & Decorating. A good level of maths and English would be an advantage. Additional support is provided if required. You will be interviewed by a member of the curriculum team and complete an initial assessment in literacy, numeracy.


You will be assessed throughout the course, for each unit to be completed you must complete a practical skills test and a theory test. The theory test is completed on-line and the questions are externally set by CSkills, the practical assessments are completed in the workshop after the completion of each unit.

Financial information

If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.

Future opportunities

The level 3 Diploma will qualify you to perform advanced decorating tasks which would enable you to look for employment or work experience with a qualified decorator.
