German/Spanish GCSE at Prince William School
Most students have studied either German or Spanish in Year 9. This language can be continued to GCSE. Carrying on to GCSE will give you the skills needed for practical communication and allow you to continue with further study of the language. The topics studied, such as Travel and Tourism and World of Work, give you the confidence to cope in the language in a variety of situations. It also gives you the opportunity to discuss various social issues, such as the environment and the problems concerning young people today. The exam takes place at the end of Year 11. There is an oral exam, a listening and a reading exam, all worth 25% of the overall mark. The writing skill is assessed by continuous coursework, of which the three best pieces are selected. This is a very rewarding option, which opens up future opportunities for further language study or can help when travelling or working abroad.
