BTEC Level 3: Childrens Play, Learning and Development at JC6: Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form Centre

Course description

CPLD is a flexible qualification which can be studied as a single, double or triple option. All three courses give students a broad and detailed knowledge of child development, as well as building their practical experience through placements in a range of childcare settings. The course forms an excellent base for those who wish to pursue a career in the childcare sector, either by going straight into employment or continuing their studies at university.

Course content

Consider CPLD if:

  • You want to work with children.
  • You are motivated by independent research.
  • You enjoy learning in the community.

Entry requirements

JC6 general entry requirements.

Assessment

Coursework and one examined unit. Practical observations in placement also form part of the ongoing assessment.

Future opportunities

CPLD is a very useful qualification for students wishing to undertake reception or primary teaching: the course is well recognised by universities. It can sit well alongside more traditional A level subjects, which will be useful for those going on to teach at primary level, or with other BTEC subjects, such as Health and Social Care.

Many students use the qualification to go straight on to employment - for students who take the double or triple award, your qualification will include the Early Years Educator (EYE), giving you license to practise as a fully qualified Level 3 Early Years Practitioner.
