Health and Social Care BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Coulsdon Sixth Form College
If you have an interest in the health and social care of people in the community, then this course is for you. There will be 100 hours of compulsory work experience which will be incorporated into the course. This course enables students to reach a standard equivalent to 3 A Levels through coursework and assessment.
Many students go on to do Degree and Diploma courses in Health and Social Care related subjects, however, it should be noted that many of these courses (Nursing and Midwifery for example), require students to take other Science subjects alongside this course.
All students will undergo a DBS check as part of safeguarding legislation.
This course covers a variety of topics such as:
- Human Lifespan Development (exam) Year 1
- Working in Health & Social Care (exam) Year 1
- Meeting individual needs
- Work experience
- Anatomy and Physiology (exam) Year 2
- Enquires into Research
- Sociological Perspectives
- Psychological Perspectives
Students wishing to do BTEC Level 3 courses, need to have (or expect to achieve) at least four GCSE passes at Grade 4 or above with English and Mathematics at 3 or better (and a satisfactory school reference) in order to be accepted on a BTEC Level 3 Programme.
Students will also have to undertake a DBS check.
This course is assessed through coursework (72%) and an exam over the two years. Students will complete a number of units of coursework. The points achieved on each unit will be added together to form an overall grade.
The awarding body for this course is Pearson BTEC.
You could take this course to prepare for higher education in Health and Social Care or more general higher education courses as the course offers skills that are useful in lots of subjects. With further training, you could go into a job related to Health and Social Care such as a Nurse, Midwife, Dietician, Teacher or areas of Social Work. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the social sectors.
