Course description

Do you enjoy performing?Can you sing, dance or play a musical instrument?Did you enjoy Expressive Arts, Music, Dance or Drama at GCSE Level?If you did then the Performance Studies 'A' and A/S course may suit you.We study a wide range of performance work ranging from the blues and John Godber to Dylan and DV8.What are the aims of the course?To introduce you to the language of dramatic arts through a series of practical workshops andlecture/demonstrations.You will have the opportunity to work alongside professional artists in order to improve your existing skills and acquire new ways of working.The main focus of the course is upon Drama but Physical Theatre, Dance and Music will also be studied. Poetry, prose, history, painting and music will help to provide the stimulus for a variety of performance pieces. The course will provide you with a strong foundation for further study in any, or all of the Performance Arts. The lively mixture of practical performance work and theory ensures that all students enjoy and understand the importance of art in our everyday lives.A minimum grade C at GCSE Creative Arts subjects.

Future opportunities

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses such as Music and Drama or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Performing Arts, which could lead onto higher education to study Performing Arts or more general higher education courses. With further training you could go into a job related to the Performing Arts such as a Chorographer, Theatre Director, or you may wish to perform on the stage.You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially within the Performing Art sectors.
