Travel and Tourism BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary/Extended Diploma at Northbrook College Sussex

Course description

There are compulsory units plus optional units covering a range of subjects. Each unit is taught separately using a variety of methods, eg case studies, group work, individual tasks, presentations, videos, discussion and visits.

The course is assessed through a programme of assignments using a variety of assessment methods. All work will be assessed either internally or externally.

Entry requirements

To start on this course you need:

At least 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C, including English and Maths 
an appropriate Level 2 qualification with at least 70% Merit profile and full achievement of appropriate Functional Skills qualifications.

Entry is dependent on successful interview and initial assessment.

(If you will not have the above qualifications, you may be able to start on the Level 2 course instead before applying to move on to this Level 3 course).


The course is assessed through a programme of assignments which use a variety of assessment methods which may take many different forms e.g. written work, presentations, discussions, meetings. The student’s work is then presented to the examination board through a Portfolio of Evidence and a final grade is awarded.

Future opportunities

After 1 year at Level 3 you can achieve a BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Travel & Tourism. Some students will seek employment but most will apply for the Extended Diploma course (below).

After 2 years at Level 3 you can achieve a BTEC Extended Diploma in Travel & Tourism. This is equivalent to 3 A Levels and means you can either apply for university level courses or you can seek employment in areas such as tour operators, airlines, cruise lines or travel agents.
