A2 - D&T Product Design at Chase Terrace Technology College

Course description

A2 Level - Units 3 & 4 Unit 3—Design, Make & Evaluate Candidates are allowed to select a project of their own choosing to develop to a working prototype that can be tested and evaluated. This can be in any material or combination of materials. Candidates are expected to produce a project reflecting 40 hours of work. The final project will consist of an A3 Design folder of no more than 25 sheets and a quality manufactured product. Unit 4 – Product Design 2 A written examination on knowledge gained throughout the course on the following topics: • Materials, components and their uses • Manufacturing processes • Industrial and commercial practices

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level courses such as Art and Design or Computing to prepare for higher education in areas of and design, technology, architecture or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to design and technology such as an Architect, Carpenter or Computer Technician. The course will also encourage you to explore your creative mind and help you develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
