Art and Design (Textiles) A level at Burntwood School

Course description

This new and exciting course will develop your creative skills in Textiles. By experimenting with a varied range of Textile media approaches and techniques including photography, you will build a varied portfolio and develop, record and critically evaluate your work in journals, sketchbooks and worksheets. You will be introduced to a variety of experimental techniques which will allow you to explore different processes. You will gain awareness of both traditional and new technologies, by exploring relevant images, artifacts and resources relating to a range of Art and Design themes. You will gain awareness of the elements of Textile Design, such as shape, colour, texture, pattern, harmony, contrast and/or repetition and an understanding of a variety of Textile methods. You will also learn relevant working vocabulary and specialist terminology. Candidates will produce practical and critical/ contextual work. In addition an exam will be taken at the end of A2; the topic will be set by the examination board. Students are able to use equipment from the other VA & DT disciplines such as photography, 3D design, graphics and textiles.

Entry requirements

GCSE C grade/Level 4 or above in Design and Technology, Art or Photography.

This course opens up opportunities for further study and successful careers in fashion, interiors, theatre and textile design or a career in retail and design management.
