English Literature at Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form Free School

Course description

Studying English Literature will develop your interest and enjoyment of reading. The course will also enable you to develop your critical analysis skills and your understanding of theoretical approaches to literary study. As you progress through the course you will become a confident reader of a range of texts and your skills of response and analysis will be improved. This four-unit specification encourages students to develop their interest in English Literature through reading widely, critically and independently.

Texts range across centuries, genre and gender. Students are encouraged to become informed, independent readers of literary texts and gain an understanding of a variety of views about texts and how to read them. Students will study poetry, prose and drama from a choice of themes. This could be either Victorian Literature, World War One Literature or The Struggle for Identity in Modern Literature.
