Sport (Performance and Excellence) Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma at Mid Cheshire College

Course description

You will study 9 units during the year. The course is theory based with practical elements in a variety of units. All students will study the following units: Analysis of Sports Performance, Practical Team Sports, Officiating in Sport, Work Experience, Sports Coaching, Organising Events, Talent ID, Instructing Physical Activity & Exercise, and Sports Injuries.

Course content

This course includes a Study Programme to provide learners with a coherent and enriching curriculum which will provide them with the academic, social and employability skills to progress to further or higher education or employment. The content of the study programme is designed to broaden the learner experience beyond the main qualification of study. The key theme of Study Programmes at Level 3 will be the development of personal, social and enterprise skills to enable progression to higher levels of study or employment. As well as your core qualification you will study GCSE or Functional Skills in English or Maths plus English and Maths development as part of the core qualification. Learners will also undertake personal progress planning and pastoral education. Plus additional personal development activity which may include work experience and projects.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade A* - C or equivalent and successful completion of the Level 3 BTEC 90 Credit in Sport.


Continuous assessment through projects, assignments, presentations & practical observations

Future opportunities

You will be able to progress to our Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching and Physical Education, if you achieve adequate grades, or another higher level sports qualification involving the teaching of physical education, sports coaching or sports development.
