Physical Education AS/A2 Level 3 at Highsted Grammar School

Course description

Participation in sport and recreation – you will develop your knowledge and understanding of what constitutes a healthy and healthy and active lifestyle. You will investigate how the body responds and adapts to exercise, the components of physical and skill fitness and different methods of fitness training.
In the second section of the unit you will develop your knowledge and understanding of how competitive sport has developed over time. You will also be encouraged to understand how lifelong involvement in sport is encouraged.
The critical sports performer – you will be engaged in four tasks, and these will develop practical experiences and conduct independent research into the structure, provision and analysis of sport and physical activity.
You will develop you performance in two chosen roles (performer, official, leader), and record you performances over a period of time.
You will also undertake a study into the provision of sport for all three roles at local level, followed by a study of the provision for one role at the national level.
You will also produce an analysis of your performance, in the one of your chosen roles.

Entry requirements

B in science, preferably with GCSE Physical Education

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level courses such as Science to prepare for higher education in areas of Sport Studies, Recreation, Exercise and Science or more general higher education courses. Continue to A2 Physical Education, leading onto applying for a degree in an area of Sport and Physical Education Leadership awards. Coaching awards You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses such as Science or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Physical Education, which could lead onto higher education in areas of Sport Studies, Recreation, Exercise and Science or more general higher education courses. With further training you could go into a job related to Physical Education such as a Physiotherapist, Teacher or Exercise and Fitness Trainer. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the Sporting and Health Sectors.
