Level 2 Apprenticeship in Barbering at Newcastle-under-Lyme College
You will work towards the NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Barbering and will also work towards Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths if these were not obtained prior to the start of the apprenticeship. During the course you will cover various units such as cutting hair using basic barbering techniques, changing men's hair colour and cutting facial hair to shape using basic techniques. You will also study additional technical units such as health and safety and creating basic patterns in hair.
To enter the programme you will need a minimum of two GCSEs at grade C or above in Maths and English. You must be employed in a salon or barbers and be able to demonstrate good levels of numeracy and literacy. Entry to this course is by interview enabling us to discuss your individual training and development needs.
You are continually assessed throughout the course by building a portfolio of work, which contains evidence of your competence in each area. Most assessments will be completed within the workplace.
While you are on an apprenticeship programme your employer pays you a salary and supports you whilst you undertake your training.
If you succesfully achieve this apprenticeship we will then discuss with you and your employer about the possibility of other qualifications available to you. This will depend upon not only your ability but the opportunity for your role with your employer to develop to a higher level.
On the apprenticeship programme you usually attend College one day a week and spend four days a week working with your employer.
