English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL Study Programme) at West Kent College

Course description

The highly successful (ESOL) programme at West Kent and Ashford College is designed for speakers whose home language is not English, who are living or trying to settle in England. The course aims to enhance listening, speaking, reading, writing and understanding of the English language, whatever the starting level of knowledge.

ESOL courses are for people who have a first language other than English and who live or work in the U.K. Our students can be asylum-seekers, refugees, au pairs, migrant workers, or be partners/families of these people. They may also come from settled communities.

Entry requirements

The course is aimed at adult learners aged 19+ but we will also consider learners aged 16-18 who are employed for a minimum of 20 hours per week paid or voluntary (proof of employment will need to be provided on application).

We also offer a full-time ESOL Study Programme for 16-18 year-olds, which includes maths, work experience and tutorials, as well as English lessons.

Future opportunities

ESOL students progress through Entry 1, 2 and 3.
After Entry 3 students are ready to progress to Level 1 mainstream college courses, or they can progress to Level 1 and then Level 2 ESOL courses to continue improving their language skills.
