Travel and Tourism BTEC Extended Diploma at New College Nottingham

Course description

Getting you fully immersed in the travel sector, this course will put you at the heart of the travel and tourism industry.

Equivalent to 2 or 3 A Levels, this course covers many aspects of the industry in an in depth manner, ensuring that you complete the course with enough knowledge for further degree study or to embark on a career in the sector. 

After completing the course you could work for airlines, hotels, travel agents and tour operators. Plus you’ll be entering into one of the fastest growing industries in the UK.

Taking you through the skills needed to progress your career in the industry, including event management and visitor attractions, this course will really allow you to make your mark in the tourism sector.

Roles you could go into include: travel advisor, travel agent, air travel assistant and many more.

Course content

The course will provide you with an excellent knowledge of areas needed for a career in the travel industry.

Over the 2 years, you will study a range of different units, all aimed at equipping you with the vital skills that employers are searching for.

Units you will study include: 
- Tourist destinations
- Customer service 
- Retail travel 
- Event management 
- Holiday representatives 
- Cruise
- Visitor attractions

The course also includes a residential trip. 

ncn works in partnership with Capital FM Arena to ensure that you gain real work experience in areas such as catering, crewing, event set-up, event management and front of house hospitality.

Entry requirements

You must have ONE of the following:

  • 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C, including English or maths or equivalent
  • Level 2 City & Guilds Diploma in The Aviation Environment at merit, plus GCSE English or maths at grades A*-C
  • Level 2 City & Guilds in Travel & Tourism at merit, plus GCSE English or maths at grades A*-C

Equivalent qualifications - Functional Skills may be accepted in place of GCSE maths and/or English

If you are over 19 but have industry experience and do not have the necessary qualifications you are welcome to apply and will be considered for interview.

Assessment

You will be asked to take part in an externally set scenario-based assessment alongside practical and written assignments.

    • This former lace mill from the 1800s was once the centrepoint of the UK's world renowned lace manufacturing industry but now it's home to more than 50 of ncn's courses, including TV, Film and Digital Industries, Fashion, Multimedia, Games Development, Business and Administration, Aviation, Travel and Tourism, our HE Centre, ICT and many more.

       
      The building itself is some seven floors and in our fashion and textiles rooms right at the top of the building, you can enjoy some amazing views of the city.
       
      Across the road we have our Visual Arts Academy housed within another impressive building located at 25 Stoney Street. Here we have vast rooms and studios with amazing light so that all our art, design and photography students can do their thing.
       
      It's no coincidence that ncn's Visual Arts and Fashion and Media and Digital Academies are in the heart of the Lace Market. The area has been named Nottingham's Creative Quarter where hundreds of small creative businesses operate from. This connnectivity and vibrant environment gives our creative students a head start!
