Creative Media Production (Television and Film) BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma/Extended Diploma at Exeter College

Course description

You will learn and practise a wide range of skills including pre-production, production and  post production  techniques. In your first year you will study the Certificate progressing to the Subsidiary Diploma in your second year.

The course promotes group work but also encourages independent learning.

Course content

You will develop your skills in creating moving image sequences, working on projects such as music videos, single camera productions and documentaries. To do this effectively you will also explore research techniques and communication skills for the creative media sector. You will be trained to use HD DV cameras and Final Cut Pro editing software to achieve professional standards in your practical work, accompanied by developing analytical skills to understand the construction of media products and expand your creativity. 

Entry requirements

You need at least five GCSEs at grade C or above (including English language) and a keen interest in the media.


The course has no exam and you are assessed continuously over the period of the course. Each project will test your ability to work in teams, communicate effectively and prepare for productions. You are assessed through your finished video work and your production folder which should contain all your research, planning and production evidence. Observations from your lecturers will also form a part of your assessment.

Future opportunities

The course can lead to further study on Higher National Diploma or Foundation Degree courses, including Exeter College's Foundation Degree in Film and Television Production, or a practical media degree. You could also get a job in the media industry or progress on to the Creative Apprenticeship.
