Sport (Performance and Excellence) - Partnership with Sheffield Wednesday FC BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Doncaster College
This exciting Sport (Performance and Excellence) BTEC Level 3 Diploma runs in partnership with Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield FC. It offers talented young football players the opportunity to study whilst actively participating in an elite football development programme.
This partnership programme unites a team of experienced education professionals at Doncaster College and Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme with elite coaches from Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield FC. You will be supported to improve your performance levels with opportunities to potentially gain a professional playing contract.
You should have a keen interest in sport and a high level of fitness, as well as being a talented football player. You will need to have good time management skills in order to manage training, coursework and assignment deadlines.
The BTEC Level 3 Diploma is made up of 12 study units.
You will learn about
- anatomy and physiology in sport
- fitness testing
- training and programming
- practical sport
- safe and effective sport coaching
- sport leadership, sports injuries
- sports nutrition
- sport psychology
- tactical and technical sport skills.
You will study for English and math’s qualifications if you do not already hold a minimum GCSE grade C.
Additional short courses may be available to enhance your employability such as FA Level 1 coaching award and FA youth module.
You will spend around 10 hours a week in coaching with SWFCCP and Sheffield FC. This includes work on motion analysis, rehabilitation, strength and conditioning. You will also compete in fixtures on a weekly basis.
- 4 GCSEs at A*-C grades (or acceptable alternatives) including English Language.
- Successfully complete SWFCCP football trial. A DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is required and will be carried out at the start of the course.
In addition to classroom based lessons and coaching you will be required to study independently to complete course work assignments.
Your next step could be into a professional playing contract or into employment in the sport, health and fitness industries or to higher education.
Successful students may progress to one of our Sport Degrees or other university/higher education courses such as physical education, teaching, leisure and recreation management, events management, sports development and coaching
