You want to develop advanced IT skills across a wide range of digital platforms. This is the perfect course if you are looking for up-to-the-minute training in computing skills and want to study selected areas for today’s computer industry.

Course content

You will gain experience in a wide range of subjects including: online security; e-commerce; systems analysis and design; computer game development; animation and digital graphics.

Units you will study (across two years) include: Communications and employability skills in IT; Computer systems; Information systems; Systems analysis and design; Database design; Spreadsheet modelling; Website production; Software design and development; Event driven programming; Games platforms; Project planning with IT; Data analysis and design; Developing computer games; Web server scripting; Digital graphics; Computer animation; and Client side customisation of web pages.

Entry requirements

Minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English and Maths; or a pass at Level 2 Diploma in IT; or equivalent. An interview with a course tutor is also required.

Assessment

Assessment is ongoing and based on assignments.

Future opportunities

Progression into further study at TyneMet or at university in an IT capacity, or in a specialist area requiring IT support.

Careers include: Programmer, Business Analyst, Network Engineer/Technician, IT Support Desk, Website Developer or Designer, Application Developer, Games Developer and Software and Hardware Engineer.
