Assessment

Unit 1: TEXT1 Materials, Components and Application – The examination consists of a 2 hour written paper (50% of AS Level and 25% of A Level).  Fibre types.  Fabric manufacture.  Product components.  Working properties of fibres and fabrics.  Manipulating and combining materials.  Development of design.  Design in practice.  Communication methods.  Design in human context.  Industrial and commercial practice.  Systems and control.

Unit 2: TEXT2 Learning Through Designing & Making - Approx 50 hours coursework (50% of AS Level and 25% of A Level)  A student generated Design and Make Project consisting of a single Design Portfolio and Manufactured Outcome or two smaller projects.

Unit 3: TEXT3 Design and Manufacture – The examination consists of a 2 hour written paper (25% of A Level).  Fibre classification and generic names.  Commercial names of fibres and fabrics.  Fabric construction methods.  Working properties.  Manipulating and combining materials.  Development of technologies and design.  Design in practice.  Design in the human context.  Industrial and commercial practice.  Product manufacturing.  Systems and control.

Unit 4: TEXT4 Design and Making Practice - Approx 60 hours coursework (25% of A Level)  A student generated Design and Make Project consisting of a single substantial Design Folder and Manufactured Outcome.

Future opportunities

 Any design related career such as fashion design, theatrical design, interior design, fashion journalism, fashion buying/merchandising, fashion graphics, fabric technology………. the list goes on.
