Course description

Environmental awareness and understanding is increasingly important in business and industry as more and more environmental regulations are being introduced.

Course content

  1. Conditions of Life on Earth, Conservation abroad and in the UK. The Natural world.
  2. The lithosphere, the atmosphere and the hydrosphere.
  3. Energy and Pollution
  4. Food Production and Sustainability, Agriculture, Aquaculture, Forestry.

Entry requirements

GCSE at Grade C in both Core and Additional Science, GCSE Grade C in Maths and English.

Assessment

Paper 1

ENVS1: All content from Topic 1

  • 60 mins Written Exam
  • 40% of AS and 20% of A2

Paper 2

ENVS2: All content from Topic 2

  • 90min Written Exam
  • 60% of AS and 30% A2

Paper 3

ENVS3: All content from Topic 3

  • 90 min Written Exam
  • 25% of A2

Paper 4

ENVS4: All content from Topic 4

  • 90 min Written Exam
  • 25% of A2

Future opportunities

Students with science A Levels are welcomed to most careers and higher education courses, including Cambridge and other Russell Group Universities. A Level Environmental Studies will provide a very strong foundation for any environmentally related career, e.g. pollution control, agriculture, forestry, resource and waste management, conservation, town and country planning.
