Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma in IT Level 3(OCR ) at Benton Park School

Course description

IT is at the heart of everyday life, at home, work and in our leisure time from computer graphics and control systems to communications and problem-solving, IT has an ever increasing role to play.

Year 12

Two mandatory units

Unit 1: Communication and Employability skills for ICT,

Unit 2: Information Systems One elective unit Unit 17: Interactive Media Authoring

Year 13

Three further units

Unit 9: Project Planning with It

Unit 10: Developing Computer Games

Unit 32: Computer Game Design.

Entry requirements

Access to the Sixth Form is based on prior academic achievement, behaviour and attendance records. Students must attain at least 5 A* - C grades including English and Maths. Some subjects may have specific criteria.

Assessment

All student work is assessed internally as coursework. Grade recommendations are moderated by OCR's Visiting Moderator. There is no exam element to this qualification.

Future opportunities

ICT enables students to develop skills that are crucial to employers and universities alike.

Students could consider continuing ICT in higher education or applying for one of the numerous ICT higher apprenticeships that are available every year.

It could however support students down a number of alternative paths such as; business studies, marketing, graphic design or video editing, to name a few.

Further information

There are no key texts that need to be purchased for this qualification, but students will need access to a computer and access to the internet. If this is not possible at home, students have access to this in both the sixth form student work room and the LRC.
