WJEC Entry Level Award in Functional Skills Mathematics and English at James Rennie School Specialist Communication and Interaction College

Course description

Functional Skills provides individuals with the essential knowledge, skills and understanding that will enable them to operate confidently and independently in life and at  work.

The Mathematics qualification is designed to enhance skills application and deployment across a range of contexts. The knowledge,skills and problem solving approaches contained within the qualification provide tools that can be utilised in work, life and further learning. Learners will be encouraged to demonstrate their applied mathematical skills including process skills - representing, analysing and interpreting information. The Fuctional skills qualification are unit based and assessment is a task based controlled assessment.

The English qualification encourages learners to demonstrate their speaking, listening and communication, reading and writing skills in real life settings. The assessment consists of Speaking and Listening tasks, where students encounter simple exchanges about familiar topics ; a written task where students will be able to demonstrate their ability to write short, simple sentences and a reading task where students demonstrate their ability to explain or recount information.
