French at Guru Nanak Sikh Academy
Aims: The course will encourage students to * Develop understanding of the spoken and written forms of french in a range of contexts and topics. * Develop the ability to communicate effectively in French using a range of vocabulary and structures. * Develop knowledge and understanding of the French grammar and the ability to apply it. * Develop knowledge and understanding of countries and communities where French is spoken. * Develop positive attitudes to French learning. * Provide a suitable foundation for further study and /or practical use of French. Topics: - My World - Holiday Time and Travel - Work and Lifestyle - The Young Person in Society Assessment: There are two tiers of assessment: Higher tier (Grades A* - C) and Foundation tier (Grades C-G). Module 1 My World - Coursework module, untiered, speaking, 12.5% January submission. Module 2 Holiday and Travel - Foundation and Higher, listening and reading, 25%, June examination. Module 3 Work and Lifestyle - Coursework module, untired, writing, 12.5%, January submission. Module 4 The Young Person In Society - Foundation and Higher tier, listening, reading, speaking and writing, 50%, June examination.
You could take this course to prepare for advanced level courses such as an A/AS Level in Modern Languages and specialise in French or you may need to strengthen your grades by completing a foundation or intermediate vocational qualification. With further training, you could go into a job related to Languages such as a Teacher, Translator, or you may wish to use your French qualification to study or work over in France. You could also go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of your employer.
