Access to HE Diploma (Social Science) at Northumberland College
This course is suitable for those who wish to progress to University to study a health related degree such as nursing, midwifery, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, radiography or operating department practice. You should be aged 19+ years, have had a break from full time learning and gained some experience of work. You will need to be highly organised, able to problem solve and use initiative with effective communication skills. You will be required to participate in a careers interview, initial assessment and a group discussion then ensure you organised fee payment for the programme before you are eligible to enrol.
You will study three principal subjects at Level 3
- Human Physiology
- Professional Healthcare Practice and
Plus core skills units in:
- Study skills and
- Academic Wrtiting
You should have GCSE English Language, GCSE Mathematics and GCSE Science at grade C or above. You will also be required to undertake an initial assessment in English and maths and demonstrate Level 2 ability English and Level 1 maths. Please note if you do not have these qualifications, htere is a pre-access course that you will be able to study to prepare you for a level 3 Access programme.
Your progress will be assessed by portfolio, assignment and exam as well as practical assesments and tests.
Upon successful completion of your degree you could apply for roles appropraite to your HE study for example Social Worker, Early Years Educator, Teacher, Sociologist, Psychologist.
