Spanish A level **FEES PAYABLE** at Acorn Independent College

Course description

Spanish is one of the ‘romance’ European languages and well-suited at A Level to students who have taken a similar language at GCSE level.

By the end of the A Level course, students should expect to be close to fluent in the language they study and to have a wider vocabulary and understanding of grammar that can help in the understanding and use of their native language. They will also be required to read widely in the target language which can be an enriching and rewarding experience.

Entry requirements

Although details of previous school reports and examination results may be considered, previous academic achievements are not our only criteria. At Acorn House, we value eagerness to learn and willingness to work hard. After discussing possible courses, an offer of a place is made if the student’s aims appear to be compatible with those of the College.

Future opportunities

Universities are increasingly searching for students with a global outlook and with transferable skills as well as academic ability. Candidates who can speak another language are able to demonstrate and evidence these attributes clearly. Several universities require applicants to all subjects to have a working knowledge of at least one non-native language and all modern languages are considered to be facilitating subjects by Russell Group Universities.

Further information

Acorn House offers a variety of ways to study A Levels, so that we can help each student to achieve their best in response to their individual needs.

The Two-year programme  is designed for students who have completed their GCSE courses. Most students will study four AS subjects in their first year, and three of these subjects at A2 in the second year.

The One-Year Fast-Track A Level programme runs from September to June and offers an intensive approach to the student’s chosen subject. This one-year focused approach can be useful for those who have studied AS Levels or A Levels elsewhere but may not have achieved their desired grade and wish to retake their exams.

Our 18 Month A Level course option begins in January. It is particularly suited to students who are wishing to retake the full 2-year A Level course, but who were unable to begin in September, or who wish to move schools following a term in Lower Sixth elsewhere. The first year’s worth of modules for the A Level course will be condensed into the Spring and Summer terms in Lower Sixth, ending in June. Students will then be able to complete their final year of A Level study in the ordinary calendar structure, from September to June.
