French GCSE at Ormskirk School

Course description

The French GCSE course builds on the firm foundations laid at Key Stage 3. The topics already covered are expanded on and covered at greater depth, using a wide variety of resources. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills and build up your confidence, in particular in speaking and writing. French is a language much in demand, because of its importance in the EU.

Future opportunities

You could take this course to prepare for advanced level courses such as an A/AS Level in Modern Languages and specialise in French or you may need to strengthen your grades by completing a foundation or intermediate vocational qualification. With further training, you may begin a career directly linked to languages such as teaching or translation. You could also move into a career where you use communication skills like Marketing or Advertising. You would also be in a position to learn other languages not taught in schools (eg Arabic, Japanese, Chinese). You could also go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of your employer.
