Engineering BTEC Level 1 Diploma at Burnley College

Course description

The programme units are delivered by experienced tutors with industrial links to local engineering companies, such as Aircelle and Futaba Tenneco. This enables the staff to ensure that the skills required in industry are taught to the students.

Units include: Electronic Assembly and Electrical Wiring, Working in Engineering, Assembling Mechanical Components, Joining Using Welding Techniques, and How to Plan and Design a Machined Product.

We nurture our students to ensure that they produce good quality work and are given practical training in the Engineering workshop to help enhance their skills. Maths and English are a mandatory part of the programme.

Our industry standard machinery and equipment includes:

• Lloyds Tensile Training Machine
• Autoclave
• Rapid Prototyping Machine/3D Printer
• Fully equipped electronic workshops
• MasterCAM and Cambridge Engineering Software
• Autodesk inventor

Entry requirements

Two GCSEs at grade D or above including Mathematics OR a relevant Foundation Learning qualification including GCSE grade D in Mathematics.


Assessment is through practical activities and theoretical coursework.

Future opportunities

The BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering is the natural progression route for Level 1 Diploma in Engineering.
