Performing Engineering Operations NVQ Diploma Level 2 at St Helens College

Course description

This introductory course is designed for those who wish to gain fundamental skills and knowledge in mechanical engineering and provides part of the framework for a level 2 apprenticeship.

Course content

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Health and safety
  • Effectively working
  • Communication
  • Hand fitting techniques
  • Turning operations
  • Milling operations

Entry requirements

You should have a minimum of three GCSEs at grade C or above including maths and science.

English and maths forms an important part of your future, ensuring you achieve the best success in your chosen career. But don't worry, if you haven't got the desired grades, we will still have a course available for you.


You will be assessed by a combination of practical work and portfolio building.

Financial information

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2016), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. 

Future opportunities

Upon completion of this course, you will have the basic skills required to gain employment within the industry.

Alternatively, you may decide to progress onto an advanced apprenticeship or further study at level 3.
