Course description

The Engineering Diploma provides the opportunity to acquire knowledge and develop skills in the broad context of the engineering sector. It reflects the blend of skills needed including not only practical skills but also project management, research, manufacturing, design and marketing as well as hands on practical skills. You will also look at the history and the future of engineering

Course content

Learners following a Diploma programme will also:

  • develop Functional Skills in English, Mathematics and ICT
  • produce a project which complements the Principal Learning and/or support their progression
  • have a particularly wide choice of Additional or Specialist Learning from which they can choose other qualifications which reflect their interests and abilities

The Diplomas are an exciting qualification based on a hands-on style of learning. You will enjoy learning in different environments including the workplace, choosing to study subjects which interest you and tackling challenging projects.

You will look at the different engineering sectors and the diversity of the role of the engineer. This could include looking at design software, through to the complexity of a theme park ride. You could be producing sketches to learning about how an artificial limb works.

All Diplomas will be assessed through both exams and work marked by a teacher. Different parts of each Diploma will be assessed in different ways (for example, your project will usually be assessed by a teacher).
